Continuing a Legacy

As we mark 35 years, we are grateful to everyone who has partnered with us to help children thrive. Your support has made great things possible for children, families and communities. We are looking forward to continuing a legacy of community-led change for children for the next 35 years and beyond.

1986

The Beginning:

The Canadian Feed The Children Society was founded in British Columbia in 1986.

1992

1992 was a big year:

Canadian Feed The Children officially became a charity by registering with the CRA. We also launched our first Canadian program delivering donated food to food banks, shelters and agencies in the Greater Toronto Area, and our first child sponsorship program began in Uganda.

2015

We've worked in many countries:

In addition to Bolivia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Uganda and 27 Indigenous communities in Canada, we’ve also had programs in Burkina Faso, Haiti and Sierra Leone between 1992 and 2015.

Looking back: 35 years

2010

Our partnership with Indigenous communities grew: We expanded our current community-led approach to Indigenous food security and reconciliation, holding a summit with Indigenous leaders and launching a new pilot in Natoaganeg (Eel Ground) First Nation: Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds, Healthy Spirits.

2012 - 2016

Large scale community-led agriculture: We began reaching more children and families than ever before. Large scale farming projects like CHANGE, RESULT and MILEAR in Ghana and Ethiopia reached over 200,000 rural community members. Lifting communities out of poverty by boosting incomes and empowering woman farmers.

2019

Pivoting in times of need: The COVID-19 pandemic is declared by the World Health Organization. CFTC mobilizes with partners in Canada and internationally to provide additional support to children and families who now face sharpened food insecurity, national instability, and the effects of repeated school closures.

2020 - current

Investing in the future for children: We established the Slaight Livelihood & Gender Equality Fund to help end the forced migration of women and girls in Ethiopia. As winners of the 2020 TD Ready Challenge, we expanded our Food Forest work to build stronger and resilient Indigenous communities in Canada.
