SWEET SMILE, EVEN SWEETER STORY. . There's a great SWEET SMILE, EVEN SWEETER STORY.
.
There's a great story behind Nayeti's beaming smile. She's the young girl on the left, pictured here with her mother Linda.
.
You may have noticed Nayeti's smile if you’ve checked out our #FirstComesFood podcast or our latest Annual Impact Report. She and her mother have a great story to share.
.
Nayeti is a happy, thriving 12-year-old growing up in Ghana. Her mother Linda recently began a beekeeping business that she knows will bring her family success after #ClimateChange made it impossible to earn enough from her farm.
.
Nayeti says: “It’s a good thing that my mother is part of the bees group because I know when the program succeeds, my mother can sell some honey to raise money for education and health needs.”
.
Also, honey just tastes great! “I like to use it as a substitute for sugar in my tea and porridge and on my bread. It just tastes sweet!”
.
Beekeeping was an affordable option to help Linda and her fellow female group members earn more income. Her group has set up 30 beehives and is looking forward to their first harvest. In addition to earning a better income, they're using the bees to help restore their local ecosystem.
.
It takes real partnership to make a difference to children. Thank you Linda and Nayeti for sharing your story!
.
Thank you as well to our local partner #RAINS in Ghana, and to all of our supporters for coming together to help children like Nayeti thrive. See the link in our bio to learn more!
A SWEET SUCCESS! 🍯 🐝 . For Zeena in Ghana, A SWEET SUCCESS! 🍯 🐝
.
For Zeena in Ghana, educating her children has always been important, but paying for it became very hard when the pandemic hit. In 2020, we spoke to her and son Aliu as she was joining a women's beekeeping coop funded by donations from @canadianfeedthechildren supporters like you.
.
We caught up with them recently, and it's all great news! The coop is doing well, and Aliu is thriving in school. Today in addition to beekeeping, she's raising livestock and making improvements to her farm. She says this new #FinancialSecurity has brought her peace of mind. Aliu says:
.
"If my mother had not joined the program, I and some of my siblings would have dropped out of school, and feeding at home would also have been a challenge for us."
.
Big thanks to Zeena and Aliu for sharing their story, and thanks as well to our supporters and our local partner #RAINS, for making positive change like this possible.
.
