The 17 UN Global Goals are designed to build a bet The 17 UN Global Goals are designed to build a better world, and everyone can take part. For 14-year-old Sharai in Bolivia, her community is her passion. Sharai is going for #Goal2 : #ZeroHunger and #Goal11 : #SustainableCities and Communities.

When she first heard about the youth group at the local community centre, run by CFTC partner SCSJ, she knew that it was a chance to put her passion into action. Sharai and her friends are budding gardeners, helping to support her town's community garden by tending to the produce and harvesting for local families. Severe food insecurity is an issue in Sharai's town, so the community garden to helping to fill in the gaps for her neighbours, as well as encourage other families to start their own home gardens. "We have enough healthy food to eat, and now we have our own family garden to produce our veggies,” she told us.

But Sharai's community interest doesn't stop at the garden - she and her friends have advocated to local authorities to improve the safety of the town's public spaces. Sharai's persistence paid off, and the town installed new streetlights because of her dedication to her community.

At 14 years old, Sharai is just getting started. How can you #GoForTheGoals? Learn more at canadianfeedthechildren.ca/idw

The 17 UN Global Goals are designed to build a bet The 17 UN Global Goals are designed to build a better world, and everyone can take part. At just 18 years old, Fatima has made an significant mark in community development in her hometown in Ghana. Fatima is going for #Goal5 : #GenderEquality and #Goal8 : #DecentWork and #EconomicGrowth.

From supporting youth camps, mentorship programs, tutoring and advocacy, Fatima strives to reduce the many barriers girls and women face in the community. Along with her friends, Fatima created a gender-equality action plan that was shared with community authorities. As well, Fatima helps girls with their education by holding extra classes and support groups to ensure that girls can stay in school and receive an education. When she isn't spending time with the girls in her community, Fatima volunteers doing data entry for her local VSLA, run by our partner RAINS. When asked why she's taken up gender equality volunteering in her hometown, she told us, "I accepted because I saw it as an opportunity not only to help mothers, but also build up a rapport that will facilitate my interaction with them on girl child education.”

The 17 UN Global Goals are designed to build a bet The 17 UN Global Goals are designed to build a better world, and everyone can take part. Meet Abiy, the 18-year-old founder and coach of The Tigers, a local football (soccer) club for young boys in his community in Ethiopia. Abiy is going for Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being and Goal 4: Quality Education.

This passionate young leader finds pure joy in teaching the young boys about the sport and the physical fitness. Abiy's self-confidence and discipline has soared at the opportunity to coach. With the help of our local partner CHADET, Abiy set up The Tigers, learning financial and technical skills to run the team. Outside of the football field, Abiy assists the boys with their homework and motivates them to continue their education. When asked about the team, he told us, "Football is what I’m most passionate about. I always feel happy when I see children playing together in love and unity, and this is what I am enjoying in my football team. I’m very happy being the coach.”
